Meet the Farmer's Wife

How about we change that to "The Breeder's Partner". You've met the sheep, you've met Fred - the breeder, and now I guess it's my turn, Fred's wife/partner in this journey of raising Valais Blacknose Sheep. Fred and I are a solid team in this adventure and couldn't imagine doing it without each other.

Let me just say this to begin. If you are raising this breed by yourself, I admire you and applaud you!

If you ever have to deal with a breeder, either selling, buying, working on a committee, etc. it's important you know a bit about them. With that in mind, a few weeks ago I wrote a blog post about Fred and his passion for the Valais Blacknose. I shared his history and experience and his ability to recognize quality. So let me tell you about the other half of this team.

Hi, I'm Cheryl. I'm a behind-the-scenes/camera kinda gal. My role in this adventure I guess can be described as Office Manager. I manage the books, process paperwork, and manage thebudget. I'm also the Social Media Manager. You can find us on Facebook, Instagram, and recently on TikTok. I created our website and take all photos, and of course, I write this weekly blog. My role allows me to be creative and have some fun. I'm pretty lucky to be able to visit the barn and help when needed (trimming, shots, washing, etc.) or just go and enjoy myself just watching the sheep.

I've really enjoy the social media aspect because I've met so many breeders, from different parts of the world. I'm thrilled to see others post pictures, it makes me happy to see others sharing their day and showing off their sheep. I can relate to what they're going through whether it's a successful embryo transfer, your first fullblood Valais, a beautiful f2, or a post regarding the loss of a lamb or asking for help and information. I really believe we're building a community here. I would encourage others to always like, follow, or comment when you see other breeder's post. I believe this will make us feel like we already know each other when we meet at the upcoming shows! This is the way in the 21st century to promote this breed.

So what do I do when I'm not the other half of the dynamic duo? Be prepared to say, "What?!?". Well, I upcycle tires. Yeah, I know it sounds crazy but I've created a whole business of upcycling tires. I have a studio out by the barn and I turn tires that would've gone into landfills into fun, functional home furnishings. I designed my website and teach online courses. You can check out my website here: www.inspiredtire.com I've been featured in Gentleman's Magazine, did a segment on the Weather Channel about sustainability, and have over 180,000 followers on TikTok. Crazy, right?

You can see Fred and I are both pretty busy and working hard to do the best we can to achieve our dream of having a quality flock of Valais. We each contribute to our combined goal and balance each other nicely. As busy as we are (did I mention we have 9 grandchildren) this journey is an amazing ride and we plan on riding as long as we can.

Now that you know a little about me/us be sure to say hi on social media, introduce yourself at a show or email me if you think I can assist you or if you have any questions. Let's build this community of Valais Blacknose Sheep Lovers!
